Typology Project: The Pub
Exhibition | South Block, Glasgow
Dress for the Weather's exhibition showcases our research to date on the architecture and design of the public house. The exhibition, hosted by WASPS at South Block, brings together drawings, graphics and text focusing on the historic and contemporary design features of the pub typology in Scotland and specifically Glasgow.
The evolution of the design aspects of this typology are a response to wider cultural, social and political contexts. The exhibition charts the importance of these factors on the look of the pubs themselves but also how the pubs introduced new architectural styles and languages to the wider city. Using existing Glaswegian bars as case studies, the
exhibition charts the evolution of over a hundred years of pub design.
