The Glue Factory

Multi-purpose Venue and Studios | Glasgow

"The Glue Factory is a newly established venue for cross-artform exhibitions and events. Since 2010 the building has been used to showcase a range of bold and ambitious projects from visual art and design to contemporary performance and film.

Housed in the former Scottish Adhesives Company warehouse, the Glue Factory sits below the Forth and Clyde canal in the Spiers Locks area, 10 minutes walk from Glasgow city centre. The Glue Factory is a diverse collection of spaces that sprawls through the vestiges of heavy industry and turn of the century architecture. The building also houses and paper and textiles screen printing studio and fully equipped analogue recording studio."

Dress for the Weather have been commissioned to create a series of internal alterations, new rooms and fabric upgrades that will enhance the viability of The Glue Factory as a venue and studios while maintaining its raw industrial aesthetic and creative roots.

Alterations to the venue include formalising an entrance to include spaces for ticket office, production office and photography studio to provide for a variety of situations including art exhibitions, day time market events and club nights. The studio accommodation for artists and designers will be extended across ground and first floor with the creation of new studios, a kitchen area and social area / meeting room.

There has been careful consideration to the aesthetic the proposals create in this industrial space. Steel sliding doors, metal frames and utilitarian materials have been used. However, there is a subtle approach taken that allows the building to continue to trade on the strength of it's 'as found' character and atmosphere which makes it one of the most interesting, unique and creative spaces in the city.
