Anniesland Industrial Estate

Warehouse Refurbishment | Anniesland, Glasgow

Dress for the Weather have been working with F.G.Burnett to develop proposals for the refurbishment of a series of industrial units in Anniesland Industrial Estate.

Initial proposals included the demolition of one large unit to create access to 5 new, separate workshop spaces. New profiled steel cladding was proposed to over-clad an existing steel frame with this new facade forming vehicular and pedestrian access to individual units and fronting on to the newly established car parking and loading area.

Current proposals see the re-use of and refurbishment of a larger number of units without the need for demolition. The composition of the facade and relationship of signage to entrance and solid to void has been well considered in order to best control the movement in and around a new service yard and individual workshops. The new signage zones will maintain consistency of placement and size of individual signs while being flexible enough to allow prospective tenants to impose their own brand. Vehicular and pedestrian entrances are spaced in order to create a safe entrance zone for staff and visitors, especially as a trade counter function has been introduced.

Proposals aim to create a distinctive and welcoming identity for the entrance to the estate, ensuring people can access the new units in a safe and pleasant way. The size and layout of units has been altered in order to increase usability for contemporary needs and the plan form and arrangement of the proposals has been developed with future flexibility as one of the main influencing factors.
